ODOT Seeks Proposals for Transportation Enhancements

The Oregon Department of Transportation is requesting project proposals, including those related to several forms of preservation and heritage, in the Transportation Enhancement (TE) program. About $11 million will be available statewide for projects that can be ready for contract in 2009 and 2010. The TE program provides federal funds for projects that strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental value of the transportation.

Some TE project activities eligible for funding include safety and educational activities for pedestrians and bicyclists; acquisition of historic sites; historic highway programs; historic preservation, rehabilitation and operation of historic transportation buildings, structures or facilities; archaeological planning and research; and establishment of transportation museums.

Projects are selected through a statewide competitive process based on written application and field review. Applications are accepted from local, state or federal agencies, Indian tribes, and tax-funded districts. A private organization can apply in partnership with a public agency. A notice of intent to apply is due March 23rd, 2006, with a complete application due June 30th.
